North Main Small Area Plan

North Main Street is a primary gateway into downtown Lenoir. Anyone driving from Boone to downtown Lenoir using Google maps will be routed onto Creekway Drive and North Main Street. In 2014, the City Planning Department started working on developing the North Main Small Area Plan (PDF) (NMSAP).

Goals

The goals of the NMSAP were to:

  1. Enhance the appearance of North Main Street as an attractive gateway to Historic Downtown Lenoir
  2. Encourage appropriate non-residential, neighborhood-serving uses to locate along North Main Street, but limit more intense commercial and industrial uses to protect the area as predominately residential
  3. Protect existing residents from displacement while improving the quality of housing available, especially through increased opportunities for home ownership
  4. Enhance opportunities for active transportation and recreation both through streets cape improvements and increased connectivity to Lenoir’s Greenway and J.E. Broyhill Park.
