Recreation Advisory Board

About the Board

The Recreation Advisory Board (RAB)  serves as liaison between City residents and the Parks and Recreation Department. The board works to promote and support parks and recreation services throughout the community and related groups. The board also serves works to exchange ideas concerning present and future issues within parks and recreation and to involve the communities in city programs. The Parks and Recreation board makes general recommendations and has the power and duty to:

  1. Advise and assist the parks and recreation director and staff in evaluating recreation programs, facilities, policies, and procedures;
  2. Serve as ambassadors of parks and recreation within the city and to more greatly involve the community, and enlist favorable opinions of and support for creation and park services;
  3. Assist in formulating plans for future needs of parks, land acquisition, programs, athletics, facilities, services and development, and advising the town for developing priorities among them; and
  4. Serve as a sounding board for the public, recreation department, and organizations and citizens of the city; review suggestions and recommendations concerning parks, policies and procedures.

Meetings

The RAB meets at 6:00 pm on the third Monday of February, March, April, August, September, and October. The board meets at various locations including Mulberry Recreation Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Center, and the Lenoir Aquatic and Fitness Center. Meeting are open to the public.

Members

Members server staggered two-year terms. Terms run from July 1 to June 30.
