Swim Lessons

Swim lessons are available for infants to children 12 years old at various times during the year.

About the Lessons

The following information is about swim lessons:

  • Five (5) children maximum per class
  • Daily lessons last a minimum of 30 minutes
  • Staff uses the American Red Cross curriculum
  • Swimmers must register in person at the Lenoir Aquatic & Fitness Center
  • Lessons are offered to the following age groups:
    • Toddler, ages 19 months to 3 years
    • Preschool Level 1 & 2 - 4 to 5 year olds
    • Learn to Swim Level 1& 2 - 6 to 12 year olds
  • Parents must sign up in person at the Lenoir Aquatic & Fitness Center.
  • Cost
    • $20.00 for members
    • $30.00 for City residents
    • $50.00 for non-City residents

Curriculum

LAFC staff use the American Red Cross curriculum when teaching swimming lessons. The chart below explains the goals of each class level.

Ages 6 months to 3 years
Improve on skills learned in Parent & Child Level 1. Continue to build on water safety knowledge.Be comfortable with level 1 skills. Parent must accompany child to each class.
Preschool Level 1
Ages 4 - 5 years
Familiarize children to being in water and help them learn basic swimming skills. Help children develop positive attitudes and safe habits in and around water.None
Preschool Level 2
Ages 4 - 5 years
Build on and improve skills learned in Preschool Level 1. Increase knowledge of water safety.Pass Preschool Level 1 exit skills assessment
Learn-to-Swim Level 1
Ages 6 - 12 years
