The first First Saturday in the Garden program is tomorrow, Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Unity Park Community Gardens in Lenoir.
Local Master Gardeners and volunteers will present a free education program to the public the first Saturday of every month through October. The program runs from 8:00 to 11:00 am. The First Saturday programs will follow this schedule:
- 8:00 am - Get your hands in the dirt or ask Master Garden volunteers gardening questions
- 9:00 am - Pollinator tour or workshop followed by a gardening education topic
- 11:00 am - Program ends, Master Gardeners will be on hand until 11:00 am to answer questions
Tomorrow's education topic will be "Building Cement Block Raised Beds and Planning Your Planting." The May educational topic will be "Planting Seeds and Plants in the Garden."

Unity Park Community Gardens is located at 1419 College Ave. The gardens include a plum and pear tree orchard, blueberry bushes, rental gardens (families can rent the beds to grow produce), Master Gardener demonstration beds, pollinator garden, bee hives (bees help pollinate the plants), cover crop garden, 43-bed Community Share garden, garden shed, picnic shelter and table, restroom, water.

Master Gardeners and volunteers plant lots of produce in the Community Share beds and the Community Gardens. The public can pick fresh produce from the beds for free during growing season.
